Develop WSH policy statements, taking into consideration the internal and
external factors affecting the organization
A policy is a statement of intent, and a commitment to that provide direction for the planning and for implementation of management actions. The policy should provides the framework for the establishment of the company’s health and safety objectives that guide the implementation of the policy.
This in turn, will provide direction for the health and safety program to achieve these objectives. And upon implementation, the policy should be reviewed and updated depend in circumstances and the operation and continual improvement of the WSH management system
Organization should develop their policy based on the Management system such as the OSHAS 18001 and SS506 where it calls for WSH policy to have the
following characteristic.
The WSH policy in typical Safety Management System shall
• Be appropriate to the nature and scale of the organization’s WSH risks;
• Include a commitment to continual improvement;
• Include a commitment to at least comply with current applicable WSH
legislation and with other requirements to which the organization operates
• Be documented, implemented and maintained
• Be communicated to all employees with the intent that employees are
made aware of their individual WSH obligations
• Be available to interested parties; and
• Be reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains relevant and
appropriate to the organization
