Workplace Safety and Health - External Factors Influencing WSH Policy

External Factors that influence WSH Policy may include but not restricted
to the following

• New or changes in legal requirements
• Changes in industrial practices
• Trends in the industrial WSH Performance
• Directions of influential groups
• Advancement in WSH control and management technology
• Changes in the social and economic condition
• International labour Organization directives

In this assignment, 2 external factors that can influence organization WSH policy in particular new or changes in legal requirements and changes in the social and economic condition will be analyzed and presented

1.141 New or changes in legal requirements

It is of paramount importance that organization shall establish and
maintain a legal register which keep track on the new or changes in legal
requirements after all these are legal requirements which any organization
are require to strictly adhere or follow as they are legal binding meaning
the organization can be prosecuted or compounded for failure to conform
to changes in the legal requirements

The organization shall establish and maintain a procedure to

• Identify relevant legislation and other requirements
• Access to legal and other requirements
• Ensure latest information is reflected

Through these activities, the organization can collect relevant information
relevant to the formulation of the WSH Policy

Designated WSH personnel shall be identified to follow up on the
development and maintenance of the legal register since they are the
subject matter of experts for WSH. The legal register shall be updated and
kept current at all times and be made available to all management staffs.

The legal register is a useful documentation which provides an overview of the WSH regulations and its subsidiary regulations relevant to the organization context which the organization must comply as they are legal binding. With such information made available, organization can use these information to formulate their WSH policy and strategy and develop the statutory equipment inspection checklist
